Historical NoteReturn to Top

Construction began on the original Ferry Hall in February of 1892, the second month of the school's offering classes. It was used as the men's dormitory for about five years, but burned to the ground on February 23rd, 1897. A replacement dormitory, also named Ferry Hall, was built in the same location and first occupied in February, 1900. It was torn down in 1975, and Eastlick Hall was constructed in that location. Ferry's bell tower was saved from demolition - turned into a gazebo, it was on the lawn southeast of Murrow Hall before being moved to a location northeast of the Lewis Alumni Centre in July of 2008.

Ferry Hall was a men's dormitory for most of its life, but in 1960 became a women's dorm, and eventual became a coed dorm, with men and women on alternating floors.
