Biographical NoteReturn to Top

As a result of participation in a lecture series arranged by Rabbi Philip Langh (Herzl) in 1935 on Jewish music, the Friedmans, already serious performing musicians, began performing Jewish music. In 1939 they moved to New York, from which they travelled around the country giving performances. Maurice Friedman sang and was accompanied by Mrs. Susie Friedman, who introduced the songs with interpretaions she prepared and also played piano music, some of which was written or arranged by Jewish composers especially for her.

Susie Michael Friedman, a pianist, and her husband Maurice, a baritone, toured widely to perform Jewish music, especially their "Cavalcade of Jewish Music." They worked to revive the popularity of Jewish music as an art form.
