Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Brent Douglas Galloway, professor emeritus of First Nations University and the University of Regina (Saskatchewan, British Columbia), studied Salish languages, primarily Halkomelem, Nooksack, and Samish. Halkomelem is spoken by the Sto:lo (or Stalo) people. Galloway's linguistic studies also included Gullah and Black English. In his research, Galloway focused on semantics and phonology. He developed a semantic theory entitled, "multi-dimensional semantics." Galloway also researched the complexities of computer processing for these languages.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Audio Materials
Scope and Content: Contains reel-to-reels, cassette tapes, and compact discs. Galloway transferred contents of reel-to-reels and cassettes to cds. In some cases we are lacking original recording format (reel-to-reels or cassettes) and in some cases we are lacking the CDs. CDs are available to patrons as the listening copies. The CD audio files are also accessible online.
Digitized audio recordings (in order by date of recording)
Scope and Content: Some of the original reel-to-reel and cassette tapes have been digitized. Due to various numbering systems used over time, the easiest way to determine whether a particular interview is available online is to note the day of the interview in the "Reel-to-reels" and "Cassette tapes" sections below and then see what is availabe online for that date in the following list.
