The Bank of Belfry was founded November 17, 1906 with a capital of $5,000 in Belfry, Carbon County, Montana. The capital was increased from earnings in 1911 to $10,000 and in 1912 to $20,000. The cashier was J.O Higham. The bank survived the Great Depression, but in 1934 the directors decided to liquidate the bank, "in view of the fact that changing conditions and more rapid means of communications and transport have removd the need for an institution of this kind in a relatively small community." The liquidation process continued into the 1950s.
