Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The bulk of the collection consists of prescriptions collected from as early as 1891 in Cottage Grove, Oregon. These materials were largely collected by Dr. George Snapp; in fact, the collection was originally titled the "Dr. Snapp Prescription Collection." However, with the addition of more materials, including a ledger from the New Deal Drug Store, with prescriptions from various doctors from 1919-1922, the name of the collection was changed to "Cottage Grove prescription collection" to better reflect the holdings.

Additional materials include various articles and donation information.

Arrangement

The prescriptions are housed in the order in which they came. Boxes are subdivided by dividers stating which doctor and year the prescriptions belong to. There are a few exceptions which seem to have serial numbers instead. However these do not seem to match up with any of the actual prescription numbers, so it is not known if these numbers represent a filing system of the researchers or not.

Custodial History

The Cottage Grove Historical Society acquired Dr. Snapp's prescriptions and put a team together of volunteer Lucinda Dykes, M.D., and Society personnel Marcia Allen, Frieda Williams, and Lois Fix to organize them (2008-2009). They were able to scan about half of the 2000 prescriptions.

Acquisition Information

Jo Ann Gray, President of the Cottage Grove Historical Society, approved a motion to permanently transfer the materials to the OHSU Historical Collections & Archives on June 14, 2013. In 2017, Joseph Brazie donated the "New Deal Drug Store" ledger, which was added to the collection.
