Charles K. Dalton was born in Helena, Montana, on August 11, 1902. His father was Charles E. Dalton who was the co-owner of Dalton and Simon Secondhand Store in downtown Helena. Charles K. worked as an engineer for the State Highway Commission until he retired in the early 1960s. Charles passed away in Helena on June 22, 1986. Available records show he was survived by one son, Charles K. Jr. and his wife, Priscilla.

These photographs, collected by Charles K. Dalton, are an eclectic mix of images reflecting activities and scenes in and around the Helena, Montana area including Avon, Helmville, Rimini, and Lincoln, Montana. These photographs included professional portraits of identified and unidentified individuals, informal photographs of the Dalton family and acquaintances, mining and recreational activities, Canyon Ferry Dam and power station, the Missouri River and the Blackfoot River. Sixty-three of these images are identified, the remainder are unidentified but contain many interesting scenes, portraits and locales. The photographs in this collection are undated but likely taken between 1900 and 1930.

Acquisition Information

The original glass negatives were loaned to the Archives in 1971 to be copied and returned to Priscilla Dalton.
