Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Karl Signell is perhaps best known for his publications in Turkish music, especially "Makam: Modal practice in Turkish art music". He has done extensive field research in the U.S. and in more than a dozen countries abroad, including Turkey, Indonesia, and Japan.

Besides editing Ethnomusicology OnLine https://www.umbc.edu/eol/, his multimedia projects include other Web sites, CDs, CD-ROMs, and audio documentaries such as "The Nature of Music" series and "Music in a new world: America's ethnic traditions" series.
