Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Mr. Metzon arrived in the U.S. in June, 1953 after a brief detainment on Ellis Island. He was initially affiliated with Temple de Hirsch and later with the newly founded Temple Beth Am which was then located at Unitarian Church (1956-57). He was president of Temple Beth Am 1975-77. After studying for his CPA at the University of Washington, he joined the firm of Moss Adams where he worked as secretary to the Danish Vice-Consul (the Danish Consulate was located in same accounting office). He later became Vice-Consul himself.

The interview concerns Mr. Metson's early life in Denmark, his family background, and employment in the book business. It describes in detail the rescue evacuation of Danish Jews to Sweden in 1943 in which Mr. Metzon was personally involved and the special treatment of Danish Jews deported to Theresienstadt. He also discusses his establishment in Seattle, his early employment, his temple affiliation, studying for CPA at University of Washington, later employment, and club affiliations.

Tape-recorded interview conducted by Eric Offenbacker on 11/18/86 and 12/3/86. Accession also includes a family tree, immigration papers, clippings, and a newsletter (1954-1973).
