Mrs. Lurie's parents were born in Europe, met and married in Brooklyn, NY where she was born. After the family moved to Seattle in 1911, Rabbi Stephen Wise was a guest in their home. He received a cool reception by Rabbi Koch at Temple de Hirsch. Her father was Israel Cohen. Edith graduated from Broadway High School in 1914 and studied at Holy Names Academy and the UW. While at Holy Names, Lurie encountered a nun who had Jewish cousins, Theresa and Harold Offer.

Tape-recorded interview covering the years 1894-1948 conducted by Meta Kaplan and Jeanette Schrieber, July 1, 1974. Letter giving date of founding of Hadassah, Seattle Chapter. 1989.
Mrs. Lurie talks about her early life in New York were her mother was active in the Reform movement. The family moved to Seattle because her father participated in the Klondike Gold Rush. She describes her father's adventures in Alaska, British Columbia, and his early manufacturing business in Seattle. Mrs. Lurie talks about her education in Seattle, her marriage and involvement with Hadassah. She was also active in civic affairs, and talks about her husband's jewelry business downtown.
