Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Missoula Lions Club held their first meeting at the Florence Hotel in Missoula, Montana, on December 10, 1928, to choose their officers for their first year. The first officers were: President, George Mallick; 1st Vice President, J. A. Lundstrom; 2nd Vice President, A. F. Peterson, Jr.; 3rd Vice President, A. B. Murphy; Secretary, Ralph Arnold; and Treasurer, Leonard Larson. The Missoula Lions Club has held their meetings at several places around Missoula during their existence including the Florence Hotel, the Park Hotel, Missoula Hotel, Press Club, and the Elks Temple. The Lions Club partakes in various activities that are directed to "the betterment of the community and the people in the community." Those activities include fund-raisers to help various boys and girls clubs around the city, families in need, other clubs and organizations, school bands and little league. The main charitable focus of the club is eye care. The club has an annual Christmas tree sale to buy eyeglasses for those who otherwise could not afford it. They also support recycling of old eyeglasses to donate to others. The club is still active in Missoula.
