Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Daryl Chase was the President of Utah State Agricultural College from 1954-1968. During his Presidency Daryl Chase moved the College into a more research oriented institution, created several international programs, and traveled to various countries promoting agricultural development. Chase’s efforts as President brought about in part the transformation of Utah State Agricultural College to Utah State University of Agriculture and Applied Sciences in 1957. In 1964 Daryl Chase visited Bolivia. During this visit he met with members of the 4-S club (Bolivia’s 4-H), Bolivian officials in agriculture, and Bolivian school children. Additional, Chase had an appreciation for various farming techniques and equipment. While President, he visited several museums, ranches, and farms throughout Cache Valley and took photographs of the equipment and techniques used by farmers.

The Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) photographs were taken by officials within this organization to document third world agricultural practices. The FAO’s purpose is to help various nations improve their agricultural development, and spread the best practices of agriculture. The photographs were likely collected by President Chase due to his interest in international Agriculture.
