George Marshall collected these papers for an article about the Olympic Peninsula trips, 1889, 1890, of James Wickersham and Joseph P. O'Neil. Wickersham, later territorial governor of Alaska, and Lt. O'Neil, were the first caucasians to explore the Olympic Mountains.
