Historical NoteReturn to Top

The firm of Naramore, Bain, Brady & Johanson began almost casually in the early 1940s in response to the need for building construction after the depression and the war. In Bremerton alone, the U.S. Navy wanted a whole new town built, and built fast. No one firm could take on the job, so three existing Seattle firms finally got together to do the job. William Bain had specialized up to then in domestic architecture; Floyd Naramore and Clifton (Doc) Brady were best known for schools; and Perry Johanson was interested in medical design. At first the collaboration was a matter of convenience but the association was too profitable to abandon so eventually the individual firms were disbanded. Examples of the firms projects are the Plymouth Congregational Church in Seattle, the Bellingham Public Library, the Seafirst Tower, and the Kingdome.
