- Founded in 1976, the OHSU School of Nursing Nurse-Midwifery Program enables students earning a master's degree in nursing to also become certified in nurse-midwifery. The Nurse-Midwifery Program Scrapbooks provide an inside look into the early days of the program, consisting primarily of photographs, pages from OHSU publications featuring program faculty, news clippings, program brochures, and ephemera originally housed within two scrapbooks compiled and kept by program faculty.

The Nurse-Midwifery Program at the OHSU School of Nursing was founded in 1976, headed by Carol Lindeman, Ph.D., R.N., F.A.A.N. In 1981, the first class of students was admitted to the program, graduating in 1983. Faculty members guiding the program during its early formation include Linda Wheeler, Carol Howe, and Polly Malby, among many others. The program enables students to earn a certification in nurse midwifery after 2 years of course work and clinical practice and receiving a master's degree in nursing. Through quilting parties, hand blessing ceremonies, retreats, and other gatherings, the program also fosters comradery and friendship amongst the students and faculty. The program is still alive and active today, ranked by U.S. News and World Reports in 2009 as the 1st in the nation.

The Nurse-Midwifery Program Scrapbooks consists primarily of photographs, pages from OHSU publications featuring program faculty, news clippings, program brochures, and ephemera originally housed within 2 scrapbooks compiled and kept by faculty of the OHSU School of Nursing Nurse-Midwifery Program. The collection provides an intimate look into the life of students and faculty of the Nurse-Midwifery Program during its early formation, containing group and individual photographs of nurse midwifery faculty and students at meetings and presentations, gatherings and celebrations, and graduation ceremonies.
