The Office of the President at Central Washington University originated with the appointment of a Principal for Washington State Normal School by the Board of Trustees in the fall of 1891. The title of Principal was changed to President in 1914 and continues to use today.

The correspondence in this collection includes information related to building construction, issues with the Washington state legislature, faculty salaries, student activities and other events at Central Washington University (and predecessor institutions), 1916-1995.
Historical BackgroundReturn to Top
Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
