Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Ernest Eugene Rothschild was born in Port Townsend in 1885 before crossing the Sound to go to the University of Washington. As a student, he served as yells leader at assemblies in 1905. He graduated from UW in 1908 with a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The year he graduated, he attended the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Fair, taking many pictures as he walked through the event. After graduating, he worked for West Seattle Drug Company.

As the youngest sibling in his family, after his sister Emilie died, Ernest was responsible for the family estate in Port Townsend. Instead of moving away from Seattle, he decided to donate the house and grounds to the Washington State Parks and Recreation department in 1959 which maintain the area now. Ernest Eugene Rothschild passed away in 1968.
