Includes office files 1968-1975 and files of President's correspondence (Joan Thomas and Jack Robertson); files of Dorothy Morrell and John Black, WEC lobbyists in Olympia, 1969-1972, and 1975-1977, respectively, make up the bulk of the accession. In 1971 the King County Action Committee of the WEC changed its name to the King County Chapter: one box of office files from the Presidencies of Jay Paulson, 1970-1972 and Keith Dearborn, 1972-1973, King County Chapter. Jerry Parker, Policy Analyst for the State of Washington's office of Program Planning and Fiscal Management, 1973-1975(?), passed some of his files to the WEC. The bulk of his files consist of correspondence and reports concerning the Bonneville Power Administration's drafting and subsequent publication of an Environmental Impact Statement on the growth of public power in the Northwest.

Brock Evan's background papers on his role in forming the Council. Includes an issue of "WEC Alert," 1988, with a chronology of WEC history, list of past presidents, etc.

Scope and Content: Subject series and legal case files, 1968-1982. Documents environmental issues, including water quality, air pollution, Washington Public Power Supply System, oil tankers in Washington State waters, Ross Dam, Indian fishing rights and land use.

Scope and Content: Correspondence, minutes, legislation, subject series, and other related series, ca. 1967-1993. One subgroup, all in Box 9, is composed of files belonging to a founder and past president, Jack Robertson; but the material seems to include files he may have inherited from other early WEC leaders, including Tom Wimmer.

A major subgroup is the EWC's Timber, Fish, and Wildlife Implementation Project. The Timber, Fish, and Wildlife Implementation Project monitoring process, mainly 1988-1990, is documented in this accession.

Scope and Content: Correspondence, writings, pleadings, reports, publications, clippings, 1977-1987. These files were created by Marian Meacham, who chaired WEC's Forest Practices committee with Marcy Golde, 1978- .

Scope and Content: Incoming letters, pleadings, and other papers from Darlene Madenwald's presidency of the Washington Environmental Council; 1990-1994.

Scope and Content: Correspondence, testimony, minutes, ephemera, clippings, lists and other records related to energy issues such as shipment of oil on Puget Sound, nuclear power, land use and other environmental issues on which this organization took positions; 1969-1984 (bulk ca. 1974-1982)

Scope and Content: Synopsis of minutes of the first organizing meeting of the Council; November 19, 1967.

Scope and Content: Primarily WEC staff files created to monitor and work on environmental issues affecting the State of Washington. These contain background material and correspondence. Also represented are some Board of Trustees communications, 1993-94, committee files, correspondence with various agencies, and legal files, documenting cases WEC monitored or pursued. Among larger cases were the Cross Cascade Pipeline case and the Intertanko case. Files span the approximate dates 1987-1997, although the Intertanko case files may extend later.

Scope and Content: Correspondence and issue files of the Spokane office; subject files of Forestry staff in the main office in Seattle; 1989-2001 (bulk ca. 1992-1998).

The files from the Spokane office were brought back to Seattle and sorted. Since the office had been somewhat hastily closed, the files had been thrown into boxes haphazardly. The order of the files is rather random. The Forestry files are a sub-set of Seattle office staff files. These were files from the early nineties from staff people managing WEC's forestry work. Kim Josund, Josh Baldi, and Becky Kelley all worked on the forestry program during this time.

Scope and Content: Reference files (correspondence, drafts of legislation, clippings, etc.) re Forest Practices Act of 1974, 1972-1974.

Scope and Content: Roger M. Leed's Washington Environmental Council presidential papers (1980-1982) and Board member personal papers (1970-1983). Materials include correspondence, meeting agendas and minutes, legislative documents, newsletters, documents pertaining to Mount St. Helens, Nisqually Delta, Commencement Bay, and more.

Scope and Content: Legal documents, news clippings, writings, and correspondence related to various court cases; legislative research, agendas, and bills; committee files; research files; campaign materials; annual reports; newsletters; membership lists; awards; correspondence; and other records of the Washington Environmental Council. Materials from specific court cases, campaigns, and other work include Washington Environmental Council v. State of Washington Department of Ecology and A-1 Spraying Services, 2.1 Million Acres of Trees v. Bert Cole, U.S. v. Washington, and Kees Hofman v. Brian Boyle; the Forest Practices Board; Timber-Fish-Wildlife Project; Yakima Resource Management Cooperative; Cumulative Effects of Forest Practices on the Environment; Sustainable Forestry Roundtable; Campaign for the Northwest; Reclaim the Agenda; forest and salmon campaigns; and Endangered Species acts.

Scope and Content: Plans, correspondence, pamphlets, and other records of the President of the Washington Environmental Council related to organizational growth initiatives and the board of directors.
