Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Lucile Saunders McDonald was a journalist, historian and the author of numerous children's books. She was very interested in the regional history of the Pacific Northwest, using it not only as a backround for many of her stories but as the subject of several documentaries. In addition to her free lance activities, she worked for 23 years for the "Seattle Times Magazine." She contributed a weekly local history column to the Journal-American. McDonald was a member of the Seattle Free Lances, and the Authors League of America. She helped found the Pacific Northwest Writers Conference and served as moderator for the panel on juvenile literature in 1966. She was also a member of Theta Sigma Phi's National Executive Board and the New York Newspaperwoman's Club. Except for three years absence, she lived in Washington since 1932. Her hobby was Washington history and folklore. McDonald wrote or co-authored 28 books.
