The Thomas Burke Memorial State Museum is Washington State's museum of natural history. The Burke Museum is also a University of Washington museum, with collections used for teaching and research. The museum exists to encourage understanding of, and appreciation for, the natural and cultural history of Washington, the Pacific Northwest, and the Pacific Rim. Prior to the dedication of the current building in 1964, the Burke Museum was known as the University of Washington Museum.

The booklet, "A Time of Gathering: an Intertribal Welcome; Statements from Thiry-Six Washington Tribes" contains the statements and logos used in a 1989 Burke Museum exhibit, "A Time of Gathering." Roberta Haines and Robin Wright were the editors of the booklet.

These records resulted from public relations activities of the museum and document special exhibits, especially from 1988 to 1994. Includes research materials for 1985 centennial exhibit.

Records are copies of documents dealing with the set-up of the Burke Trust based on the terms of the will of the late Caroline McGilvra Burke and the subsequent dissolution of the Trust. The proceeds from the dissolution were ultimately invested by the University of Washington in an endowment benefiting the Thomas Burke Memorial Washington State Museum.
