Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Office of Public Information and University of Relations was originally established in 1949 and handled publicity for the University of Washington. It was renamed the Office of Public Information in 1955. Between 1962 and 1965, the office changed the name to the Office of News Services. Between 1966 and 1976, the new title, Office of Information Services, was adopted. The former title, Office of News Services, was reinstated between 1977 and 1982. The office returned to the previous title, Office of Information Services, between 1983 and 1990. The current title, Office of News and Information, has been used since 1991 and the office continues its mission to provide public information concerning the University of Washington.
