Professor of communications., University of Washington.
Roger Simpson joined the University of Washington faculty in 1968. During his tenure, his areas of interest included communication history, law of communication, media economics and editorial journalism. In 1961, Simpson completed a masters thesis for the University of Wisconsin in which he examined the American Newspaper Guild and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer strike of 1936.

Scope and Content: Interview tapes and transcripts, 1959-1960; writings, student papers, and other research materials for his M.S. thesis in journalism at the University of Wisconsin, 1961, and for the book "Unionism or Hearst", co-authored with William E. Ames, 1978.

Scope and Content: Records relating Simpson’s research on the Newspaper Guild in Seattle in the 1930s. The material was used by Simpson and William Ames in co-writing their book Unionism or Hearst: the Seattle Post-Intelligencer Strike of 1936. Another segment of the collection relates to research Simpson did on the influence of the Communist Party on the Newspapers Guild in the 1930s. Much of the collection consists of research files containing photocopies of primary sources housed in other activities that were retained because they document Simpson and Ames' research activities. Some of the materials are original primary sources from the participants in the PI strike. Another segment of the collection includes conference papers, articles, and research prospecti by Simpson relating to his research on the Newspaper Guild.
