Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Matilda C. (Mattie) McDonough (1897-1971) began working for the Pacific Warehouse Company around 1923, while she was still a student at the University of Washington. McDonough started as a stenographer before becoming secretary for general manager Stephen Hull; she worked for Hull at the company's Terminal Sales Building since its opening in 1923. In 1928, she served as manager of the Terminal Sales Building in the absence of general manager Stephen Hull, who traveled between the Seattle and Portland buildings. According to the city directories, McDonough continued to work for the Pacific Warehouse Company throughout the 1930s and 1940s. Sometime in the early 1950s McDonough seems to have begun her own insurance business, the McDonough Insurance Agency. The agency is listed is the city directory until shortly after McDonough's death in 1971.

Pacific Warehouse Corporation also owned the Maritime Building, the Merchandise Mart, the 1925-29 Second Avenue building, and the 1935 Second Avenue building.
