Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Thomas G. Alkire was born in 1946 in Columbus, Ohio and his family moved to Richland, Washington when he was just two years old. He attended local schools and graduated from the University of Washington in 1968 with a degree in History. Alkire has been a freelance writer, newspaper journalist, avid angler and fly tier, and regular columnist for Flyfishing and Tying Journal, and author of There's More to Fishing (Than Catching Fish) and River Stories: Headwaters to the Sea. He was a founding member of the Oregon trout and Native Fish Society, president of the Portland Anglers Club, and former board member of the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife access and Habitat Board. Alkire has been living, working, and fishing in the Portland area for over 40 years.
