Scope and Content: Photographs, writings, 1921-1955, tape-recorded interview conducted by Karyl Winn, 1973; and transcript.

Mr. Ulrichs, a chemical engineer and pianist, was an early climber to explore the interior of the North Cascades. His interview describes ascents of Bald Eagle, Silver Eagle, Snowking, Buckner, Booker, Cutthroat, Frisco, Hardy, Corteo, Icy, Maude, Fernow, Azurite, Carru and Osceola. He also describes several lakes or peaks he named and his survey for the Cascade Crest Trail between Stevens Pass and Cle Elum, which was never used by the Forest Service. The last tape of the interview has not been transcribed, and editing may be incomplete for the transcript corresponding to the second tape.

Scope and Content: One DVD-R, copied from tape recordings, of narratives of two mountain trips made by Hermann F. Ulrichs. The first narrative is a 10 minute description of a trip Ulrichs took with four boys from the Cornish School in Seattle in March 1934 into the Skykomish Mountains. The second narrative is a 60 minute description of the beginning of Ulrichs's trans-continental trip in 1925 which took him, among other places, up to Mount Shasta, Mount Rainier, and Mount Sir Donald in the Canadian Alps (the Selkirks in British Columbia). Ulrichs climbed Mount Sir Donald solo and without equipment. William H. Hickman provides a brief introduction to the narratives, his background, and how the recordings came to be made. Recorded on tape in 1976 in San Anselmo, California. and burned onto DVD in 2012.
