Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Thomas H. Denney (1817-1908) and Berrilla Fox King (1822-1912) married in January 1849 in Indiana. That same year, they emigrated to the Oregon Territory and settled on land that would later become the Whitford neighborhood of Beaverton, Oregon. Thomas Denney operated a sawmill. The Denneys had seven children: Fielding, Brunette, Louise Cyrene, Lewis, Benjamin King, Aaron Vasco, and Allie.

The collection consists of property records, photographs, newspaper clippings, genealogical materials, and ephemera relating to the family of Thomas H. and Berrilla King Denney, who emigrated to the Oregon Territory in 1849. Property records include an abstract of title, a homestead claim certificate, and quitclaim deeds. Other materials in the collection include an account of the Denneys' journey to Oregon, "Covered Wagon Days," that was written in 1943 by their daughter Allie Denney Brown.
