Summary
The Jean Saubert papers (1956-1998) contain a scrapbook, magazine articles, newspaper, and map relating to her international ski career. Saubert was a member of the U.S. Olympic/World Championship ski teams in 1962, 1964, and 1966. She won silver and bronze medals in the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics. She later taught in elementary schools in Colorado, Utah, and Oregon, and was a physical education instructor at Brigham Young University.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Jean Saubert (1942-2007) was born and raised in Oregon and learned how to ski on Mt. Hood and Mt. Bachelor. Saubert was a member of the U.S. Olympic/World Championship Ski Teams in 1962, 1964, and 1966. Jean won two of the six medals (silver and bronze) brought home by the U.S. team from the 1964 Innsbruck Winter Olympics in Austria. After her notable international ski career, Jean continued to race competitively, attending charity Pro-Am races as a former olympian. She received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education from Oregon State University in 1965 and a Master of Recreational Education degree from Brigham Young University in 1976. Saubert taught in elementary schools in Colorado (Vail Country Day School, 1966-1967), Utah (Granite School District, 1967-1974), and Oregon (Hillsboro School District, 1978-2000). She was a physical education instructor at Brigham Young University (1975-1978), and coached skiing, tennis, racquetball, archery, weight training, volleyball, and swimming. Saubert was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day Saints.
