Appletons' Journal was a magazine of literature, science, and art published in New York in the 19th century.

Collection consists of two pages that were excised from issues of the periodical Appletons' Journal. One, from the December 10, 1870, issue (Volume IV, Number 89, pages 685-686) features the first section of an article titled "Glimpses of Indian Life," discussing methods used by Native peoples to catch salmon in the Columbia River, and includes an engraving that depicts people fishing from canoes. The other page is from the May 20, 1876, issue (Volume XV, Number 374, pages 641-642), and features part of an article titled "Salmon Fisheries on the Columbia River," regarding fishing and canning, especially at Astoria, Oregon. It includes two engravings, one of boats at a canning factory in Astoria, and one of boats and nets.
