This collection contains papers of James Robert Leuty (1917-1995), a lifelong Pullman resident and pharmacist. The collection consiste mainly of financial records of the Modern Drug Center store in Pullman, Washington, and financial records of the Leuty household. This collections also contains one of Leuty's notebooks from a WSU Pharmacy course in 1935, as well as a trip journal from 1986.

James Robert Leuty was born in 1917 to Charlotta Pearl (Rector) Leuty and Dr. Joseph David Leuty of Farmington, Washington. Between 1936 and 1940, Leuty attended Washington State College (later Washington State University) where he was a member of the the marching band and received his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacology. In 1945, while serving in the U.S. military during World War II, Leuty met and married Dorothy Margaret Johnson. Leuty returned to Pullman in 1961, where he operated the Modern Drug Center store as the pharmacist, and remained a resident until his death in 1995.
