Historical NoteReturn to Top

In 1978, the 80,000 member Norway Band Association celebrated its 60th anniversary. That year, the Nordstrand School Band, or Nordstrand skoles musikkorps, affiliated with the Aker division of the Norway Band Association, toured the Pacific Northwest of the United States to commemorate both the Association's 60th anniversary and its own 50th anniversary. 153 students of the Nordstrand School performed at a Lutheran church in Portland, Oregon; Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church in Seattle. Many local members of the community, along with institutions such as Pacific Lutheran University and organizations such as the Norseman's Federation, and Sons of Norway, helped coordinate hosting of the students and providing them with local sightseeing opportunities. The group was led and directed by Erik R. Petersen and Ragnar Larsen, the chairman of the corps.
