Historical NoteReturn to Top

Carol Newhouse, sometimes credited as Carol Osmer-Newhouse, was born in 1943 in New York City. In 1970, she apprenticed herself to the fashion photographer, which would be the extent of her formal artistic training. Following her divorce, she arrived in the bay area and become involved with the feminist movement there.

A photographer, activist, and spiritual teacher in the Pacific Northwest, Newhouse was a central member of the WomanShare collective in Grants Pass, Oregon from its inception in 1974, and would go on to engage such lesbian art icons as Ruth Mountaingrove and Tee A. Corrine. She is the co-author of A Woman's Guide to Spiritual Renewal and made numerous contributions to WomanSpirit Magazine.
