Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Writer of American history, essays, poetry, and fiction, Priscilla Long was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania in 1943. She attended Antioch College, and received an MFA in fiction writing in 1990 from the University of Washington. She was an activist in the student Peace Union (1962-1963), in the anti-war movement in the 1960s, and in the women's movement in Boston, 1969-1975. She is a printer and founder of Red Sun Press, Boston. She is the author of a history of coal mining in the U.S. She lived in Boston from 1968-1984, in San Diego from 1984-1988, and moved to Seattle in 1988. She was formerly married to Peter Irons. Long is Senior Editor of the website, HistoryLink.org, an online encyclopedia of Washington State, King County and Seattle history.

General Notes: Red Sun Press is a movement printshop operated at 94 Green Street, Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. It is collectively owned, operated, and discounts and donates printing to community groups and groups working for social change. It also does a vast amount of commercial printing. Priscilla Long was a member of the founding collective and spent ten arduous years at the press, 1974-1984. The press is (as of 1991) going strong.
