Northwest Designer-Craftsmen was founded by a small group of professional craftmen in 1955 to establish high standards of design, workmanship and business practices among craftsmen, to promote public interest in crafts, and to provide a voice for craftsmen in the area. Membership was limited to professional craftsmen, with associate membership possible for those otherwise involved with the crafts. Principle activities of the group have included organizing and participating collectively in shows (notably the 1961-1962 Seattle World's Fair), and general educational activity.
