Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Alfred J. Smith recorded ethnographic information about several local Indian groups. His primary informant was Jerry Meeker, an educated Puyallup Indian and realtor, who was very knowledgeable in the lore of his people. The notebooks were probably written in 1948 while Smith was an undergraduate student at the University of Washington. He received a B.A. in 1950.
