Scope and Content: Correspondence, minutes, writings, reports, legal pleadings, government publications, and other materials related to his activism in restructuring urban public schools, school desegregation in Seattle, and various political and civic projects, mainly in the greater Seattle area.

Scope and Content: Legal papers, correspondence, and related files for Coalition Against Recall, a Seattle citizens' group which fought the recall of School Board members on the issue of mandatory busing to achieve integration of Seattle Public Schools.

Scope and Content: The Palmer Smith papers consist chiefly of correspondence files organized by Smith into political, civil rights, personal, miscellaneous, and friends letters, and background and working files pertaining to his interest in campaign finance reform. Also includes files on the Seattle Urban Academy, the Charles Huey Mentoring Program, the Battelle Institute Talent Bank, and miscellaneous files on other topics and areas of interest to Palmer Smith.

Scope and Content: Consisting primarily of family correspondence, this group of materials also includes seven scrapbooks of clippings from Palmer Smith Sr.'s journalism career, genealogical histories of the Baynes, Coolidge, Palmer and Smith families, and writings, foremost by Palmer Smith Sr., but also by Anna R. Palmer Smith, and Martha Baynes Smith. Other material of note includes correspondence from the White House (Martha Baynes Smith's brother, William, was married to Hubert Humphrey's sister, Fern); a file relating to President J.F. Kennedy's planned trip to Seattle in 1962 which was cancelled due to the Cuban Missile Crisis; books owned by family members (including an autograph book) which date to the 19th century; and original drawings, reproductions, and writings by "Ariel Baynes," which was a psuedonym used by Martha Baynes Smith.
