Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Mrs. Clara Van Houten was born in Michigan around 1863. In 1920 she was a widow and was living with her brother and his family (which included Richard D. Hudson who is depicted in this album) in Brooklyn, New York. By the 1930s, she lived in the Wintonia Hotel on Minor Street in Seattle. In 1917 her occupation was listed as a clerk and in 1920 it was listed as stenographer.

Views of Seattle, trips to Diablo Dam, Mt. Rainier, Olympic Penninsula, Possession Point on Whidbey Island, farm at Alderwood Manor, Victoria Fleet week 1937; Mrs. T. Davidsen, McClung family; Japanese children at Point Blakely. It also includes photographs of many identified acquaintances of the creator and of the three Hudson children, Richard Jr., Phyllis and Ann. It is probable that Mrs. Van Houten was the grandmother of the Hudson children. Album related to the family of Fred Pease Harlow
