Accession No. 2276-001: Carl Sternoff papers, 1974-1975Return to Top
Scope and Content: Tape-recorded interview, negative of Blacksmith's Union photo, clipping.
Interview includes information about his lifestyle and geographical information about the Ukraine and elsewhere in Russia as well as the journey to America. Tells of how his father was a blacksmith and the story of how Sternoff Metals developed. Tells of Jewish life around Yesler Way 50 years ago and the founding and flourishing of Herzl Junior League. Tells of his activities in politics and early day and long sustained friendship with Warren G. Magnuson, his jobs before he joined Sternoff Metals. Much information about his father and mother.
Because of mechanical difficulties with tape A, side 2 is on tape B.
Clipping is from Seattle Times, January 21, 1982: "Singing 'Scrap Metal' Man Carried a Torch for Show Biz". This is a lengthy article on the singing career of Irv Sternoff.
