Historical NoteReturn to Top

The University of Washington established the Department of Law in 1899 with John T. Condon serving as Dean and the only full-time professor. During Condon's tenure, which lasted until 1926, the School was accredited by the American Bar Association in 1924 and became a member of the Association of American Law Schools in 1909. In 1936, Professor Judson Falknor, a 1919 graduate of the UW Law School, was appointed to serve as Dean and he served until 1951. Subsequent tenures have been held by Lehan Tunks (1963-1968), Richard Roddis (1970-1978), John R. Price (1982-1989), Wallace D. Loh (1990-1995), Roland Hjorth (1995-2001), W.H. Knight, Jr. (2001-2009), and Kellye Testy (2009-).
