Lawsuit opposing Interstate 90.
The original lawauit, in which the clubs intervened, was filed by Legal Services on behalf of blacks facing displacement which would result from highway construction. This case was one of the first to test the application of the National Environmental Policy Act to highways. It was appealed several times to the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals San Francisco. The plaintiffs eventually lost on their final appeal. The case has variant names, since the plaintiffs changed somewhat during the course of the appeals, as did the U.S. Transportation Secretary, the defendant. Related local cases are also documented.
