Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Ad Hoc School Crisis Committee was established in 1975 after a double levy failure in Seattle resulted in school closures and staff layoffs. Seattle taxpayers turned down a $53 million operations levy and scaled back from a $59 million proposal that was defeated the previous year. Local efforts to convince the Washington State legislators to allocate full funding for public school led to the creation of several committees to determine the levy amount for the next year.

In 1976 the Citizens for Fair School Funding (CFSF) was created with the expanded purpose to influence legislation at the state level. The organization was dissolved in 1979; however, the Citizens Education Center Northwest (CECN) continued throughout the 1980s as an information resource, school advocate, and reform supporter.
