Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Eileen Bigelow Long was born circa 1929 in California to parents Doris and Lowell Bigelow. Her brother, Gerald, was born circa 1926. Lowell Bigelow died in a fire in Everett, Washington, on August 26, 1929. Eileen spent much of her early life in Everett, where she attended North Jr. High School and Everett High School. In the early 1950s, she lived in Houston, Texas, and worked as a Program Assistant for the Y-Teens, a YWCA club for teenagers. Eileen Bigelow married William Long, Jr., in 1954. The couple lived in Seattle with their children, Cynthia and Michael.

Two scrapbooks created by Eileen Bigelow. Box 1 contains a scrapbook (1939-1946) from her time as a student at North Jr. High School and Everett High School, and includes school newsletters, student identification and membership cards, drama club materials, "Y" Camp (Camp Cavanaugh) information, correspondence, photographs (of both Bigelow's friends and of Shirley Temple, including one autographed photograph of Temple), clippings, Everett High School ephemera, and more. Box 2 contains the other scrapbook (1950-1952) which primarily consists of programs, brochures, and other materials regarding Y-Teens, a YWCA club for teenagers, for which Bigelow was the Program Assistant in Houston, Texas.
