Photographs and postcards including NE University Way, businesses, residences, apartment buildings, churches (1900-1960s); views of the University of Washington and student activities from the Territorial University to the 1920s; views of the University National Bank on NE University Way and 45th St. (1900-1960s); the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition (1909); and the King County War Finance Committee war bond events (World War II). Some of the photographs are by Linkletter Studio and Roger Dudley. These businesses were located in the Universtiy Disctict of Seattle located east of Interstate 5, including the area between Interstate 5 and NE Ravenna Boulevard. The University district earned its name from the development of the University of Washington lending itself to become the student district.

Acquisition Information

The majority of the photographs are from a donation from Wells Fargo Bank. Photos PHColl 537.48, 54, 55, 56, 57, 66, 89, 90, and 91 were donated by Paul Dorpat in 2002.

The photos in the album are copies of older photos later made by Linkletter Studio. The copies were probably created in the 1940s.

The album cover was removed, but some photos remain in original order. The album was taken apart prior to May 2010.

We were on our honeymoon and were caught in this position by a friend who labeled the picture "The First Quarrel" and mailed it back to us at Grandview, WA. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Neuenschwander.

Agnus Malloy purchased the Washington Manor Apartments and renamed the building Malloy Manor in 1929. The building still exists, but is now called University Manor Apartments.

Brooklyn Building on the southwest corner of NE 45th St. and Brooklyn Ave.
The building was completed in 1929 and was home to the General Insurance Company of America (later Safeco) from 1936 until the building was demolished and replaced with Safeco Tower in 1973.

Major H.C.K. Muhlenberg, pioneer aviator Eddie Hubbard and passenger Claude Ramsey flew two planes to the Sand Point Naval Air Station from Camp Lewis in Pierce county as a part of a tree felling ceremony marking the development of the site as an airfield. Sand Point becamse a Naval Air Station in 1923, oneof only five in the nation at that time.
