Seattle Jewish organization began as the Department of Jewish Education of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle (ca. 1970-1974). From 1974 to 1980 it was the Jewish Education Committee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. On January 1, 1981, it became independent as the Jewish Education Council.
