Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Thomas O. Wimmer was born in 1910. He is the former president of the Washington State Sportsmen's Council (1962-1963) and the Washington Environmental Council (1968-1969) which he helped found and spearheaded its Shoreline Managment campaign. Wimmer also was a member of the Washington Pollution Control Commission and president of Seattle Audubon Society (1973-1974).

Wimmer was also a member and chair of Seattle Board of Park Commissioners where he worked with Robert Kildall to preserve Discovery Park as an undeveloped park and to prevent the expansion of METRO sewage facilities at West Point within the park. He continued his longstanding agitation for water quality through his organization, Citizens Committee for Clean Water. He also organized environmentalists to support various Democratic Party candidates, including Henry M. Jackson, Warren G. Magnuson, Edward M. Kennedy, and Booth Gardner. He died in Seattle in 1987.
