Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Lincoln S. Jones was born in 1860 in Indiana. He moved to Missoula County, Montana, as a young man, where he met his wife, Adah. The two were married in 1891 and soon had two sons, Lincoln Jr. and Charlie. Jones moved his family to the Flathead Indian Reservation between 1900 and 1902. The Jones family was among the white first residents of Ronan, Montana, where Mr. Jones was employed as an Indian trader. The allotment of native lands in 1909, made possible by the Dawes Act (1887), opened the Reservation to a flood of new settlers.
