Fred Jacob Levy was born on January 31, 1933 in Berlin, Germany. He received his B.A. (1954), M.A. (1956), and Ph.D. (1960) degrees in history from Harvard University before serving as an instructor in the University of Washington history department during the 1960-1961 academic year. The following fall, Professor Levy joined the history faculty at the University of Washington as an assistant professor and five years later, he became an associate professor. In the fall of 1975, he was awarded the title, Professor of History, and continued his research interests in the political, administrative, and social history of the Reformation and Elizabethan England. Levy continues to lead seminars and courses as Professor Emeritus in Tudor-Stuart England at the University of Washington.
