Historical NoteReturn to Top

Otto D. Seligman, born in 1890 at Vienna, emigrated to America in 1946. Settling in Seattle, Seligman opened an art gallery in the University District in December 1953. By the time of Seligman's death in 1966 his gallery had attained wide recognition for its sponsorship of such Northwest artists as Guy Anderson, Paul Bonifas, Jacob Elshin, Morris Graves, Pehr Hallsten, Paul Horiuchi, Lisel Salzer, Herbert Siebner, Arthur Hall Smith, Mark Tobey and Wesley Wehr.

Francine Seders (born 1932) was an assistant at the Otto Seligman Gallery in Seattle's University District. After Otto Seligman died in 1966, Seders took over the gallery. In approximately 1974 she changed the name to Francine Seders Gallery and later moved it from the University District to the Greenwood neighborhood. The gallery showed work of artists from the Pacific Northwest, California, and Europe.
