Professor of physical education, University of Washington.

Norman Frederick Kunde was born 1903. He began as an instructor in men's physical education at Universtiy of Washington in 1931. He was appointed assistant professor in 1937 and associate professor in 1949. He was acting executive officer, physical education for men, 1956 for 1 year. In 1971 he was appointed associate professor, emeritus in 1971. Kunde was Commander, USNR, officer in charge of base Welfare and Recreation, first at Sand Point Naval Air Station and later in the South Pacific on Espiritos Santo Island. Kunde served on the Camping Advisory Committee of Washington State Park and Recreation Commission, 1958-1971; and the Governor's Inter-Agency Advisory Committee on Recreation, 1949-1955.

Scope and Content: Research files on King County and Seattle parks, curriculum materials and a file on University of Washington athletic coaches; 1896-1969.

These files relate mainly to his "King County as a Regional Park Authority" Study under personal contract with the County, 1975. There are some materials also relating to Seattle parks and Benton County parks. "PE464a" was a course on recreation for the handicapped.
