- The William B. Smart papers (1948-2000) is a collection of newspaper articles and other materials. Smart (b. 1922) went to work for The Deseret News in 1948, serving in several capacities until he became general editor and manager in 1974. Boxes 1 through 259 house alphabetized articles from The Deseret News and range in topic from budget issues, to civil rights, to the Pioneer State Theater in a thorough coverage of intermountain news, especially as it pertains to Utah.

The William B. Smart papers (1948-2000) is a collection of newspaper articles and other materials. Boxes 1 through 260 house alphabetized articles from The Deseret News and range in topic from budget issues, to civil rights, to the Pioneer State Theater in a thorough coverage of intermountain news, especially as it pertains to Utah. The addendum to the collection houses a manuscript draft and research notes for Over the Rim: The Parley P. Pratt Exploring Expedition to Southern Utah, 1849-1850, edited by Smart and his wife, Donna.
