Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Betty E. Evans was born in 1923 in Stratford, New Zealand. She attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London between 1947 and 1949 before attending the University of Alberta, where she received bachelors and masters degrees in education. In 1966 she graduated from the University of Oregon with a Ph.D. After a year as Assistant Professor of Speech at the University of Hawaii, she moved to Ellensburg as Associate Professor of Drama at Central Washington University, a position she held until her retirement in 1991. During her tenure at CWU, she wrote and produced numerous plays in addition to her teaching duties. Evans passed away in 1997.

This collection consists of scripts, performance programs, personal and performance photos, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, college papers, audio-visual materials, and personal and educational certificates held by Betty E. Evans, former professor at Central Washington University.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
