Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Calhoun Shorts was born February 14, 1911, in Seattle. He attended Stanford University, and law school at the University of Washington.

In 1984, Shorts donated his family's seven-acre property to the city of Bellevue, Washington, for use as a park. The Bellevue Botanical Garden society was formed to promote the use of the Shorts property as a botanical garden, and in 1989 the Bellevue City Council set aside 17 acres for the botanical garden, including the Shorts property.

Calhoun Shorts died in 2003 at 92 years old.
